Front yards that make sense from the street
Walkways, lawn, retaining walls and planting beds, laid out to work with the house rather than around it.
What changes in a front yard remodel
The old site names the usual pieces: new lawns, walkways and retaining walls. Most front yards need some of each. A walk that leads everywhere but the front door, grass worn to dirt along the drive, or a slope that keeps washing mulch onto the sidewalk are the kinds of problems a remodel fixes for good.
On 4 of the jobs pictured below, the answer looked different every time. One front walk was laid in large-format concrete slabs. Another house got a paver court with planting around it, a third got boulders with stepping slabs, and a fourth a paver walk lined with built-in wood benches.
Retaining walls, drainage and grade
A retaining wall is often the piece that makes the rest possible. It turns a slope into a level bed or a usable strip of lawn, and it keeps soil where it belongs. Water is the other half of grade: the yard has to shed rain away from the foundation and off the walks. Gary looks at both on the first visit, before anything is priced.
Lawn, synthetic lawn or no lawn
Grass is only one option. The family installs synthetic lawn, and a front yard can trade turf for gravel, slab paths and planting beds. The side yard pictured below runs a slab path through turf, which keeps the walk dry and the green looking tidy.
One plan for the drive, the walk and the beds
When the driveway is being redone too, it belongs in the same plan, so the paver colors, the edges and the drainage agree. See paver driveways. Gary runs the whole front of the house as one project in one bid, which includes taking out what is there now. Front yards in all 8 counties the family covers around Nashville, from Williamson up to Sumner, start the same way: a call to (423) 307-6170.

Front Yard Remodels: questions people ask
How much does a front yard remodel cost?
There is no single number, because one front yard needs only a new walk and another needs a retaining wall, new lawn and planting beds. Gary measures the yard, talks through what you want, and writes a bid that includes removing what is there now along with every material and the labor.
What does a front yard remodel include?
Whatever the yard needs to work with the house: new walkways, lawn, retaining walls and planting beds. On the jobs pictured here that meant a front walk of large-format concrete slabs, a paver court with plantings, boulders with stepping slabs, and a paver walk with built-in wood benches.
Can you redo the driveway and front yard at the same time?
Yes, and planning them together lets the walk, the drive and the beds line up as one design instead of three projects stitched together. Gary runs it as one job with one bid and one schedule, which is the point of having one person to call from the first visit to the last.
Can you replace my front lawn with something that needs less upkeep?
Yes. Synthetic lawn is one of the surfaces the family installs, and a front yard can also trade grass for gravel beds, slab paths or planting. The front yards on this page mix pavers, slabs and planting beds with very little grass. Gary will lay out the options at the walk-through.
